Jus D is reminding persons the world over that beautiful Barbados is his birthplace.

Leaving nothing to chance, he dropped a music video that reinforces why this Caribbean island is called a paradise.

Packed with picturesque aerial views of the island, the video not only captures the attention of viewers but the complimentary lyrics to the song are as refreshing as the breath-taking scenery captured.

Barbados named #1 in the world for visitor satisfaction

With a refrain that heralds B-A-R-B-A-D-O-S as the number one destination, “where tourists fly out for the sun” its touching lyrics hails the island as “the land of flying fish and sweet, sweet soca…the land of Rihanna and the greatest cricketer”, celebrating those things of which Bajans should be proud.

While the song was originally released in November, Jus D didn’t want it to simply be a seasonal tune associated with the month of Independence and so the video’s release was delayed, although it had already been shot at that time.

The song, written by Jus D himself, was produced by Jus D Music and Fuzed Lifestyle.

The video, which took approximately three weeks to shoot, explores the culture of the island and is replete with scenes of Oistins nightlife, Crop Over, historic monuments, recreational activities and scenic beach views, among many others. It was released at the beginning of March across the artiste’s social media platforms.

In speaking to Loop News Jus D shared what was behind the genesis of the song.

One of the members of my team, Dev Kutta from NYC and I came up with the idea that it was time to add a Barbadian-themed song to the existing catalogue. At the same time the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) was offering a technical support grant so we applied and was approved and then created the song from there,” he said.

While admitting that at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic he literally had “no vibes”, Jus D eventually shook that feeling and channelled his creative energies into his art.  “I ended up dropping my first album, having a lead single on VP’s Soca Gold album and having Boom bang on Spotify’s dancehall official playlist,” he shared.

And there is no stopping him now. The diminutive artiste is packed with versatility and promises that fans can expect “a new sound, style and plenty more music and videos”.

I recently signed a sync licensing agreement with a US company, so maybe even movie or Netflix placements soon,” he hinted.

Since its release, the “Where I’m From” music video has been picked up by Visit Barbados, an online tourism guide that promotes the island, and was subsequently promoted on all their social media platforms.

The almost three-minute-long video is a perfectly packaged promotion of our lovely island. And in the midst of a lifestyle-altering pandemic, it is a timely reminder of ‘where we’re from’ and all the things that make us authentically Bajan
